Adventures in Europe and Beyond
This week I went to High Park here in Toronto to take a few photos before the leaves fall off the trees. I had to stop myself from saying things like “this scenery has been picked over”, or I’m sorting through the “leftovers” from what would’ve been the peak time to take these photos a week or two before. Even the idea that I’m in some sort of rush to capture something (the leaves before they fall) is a problem in itself.
This is the tendency to view the world as subservient to us. In these moments we literally miss the forest for the trees. After a while, I sat myself on a bench and put the camera away.
I had crossed a line between wanting to appreciate nature and simply becoming greedy.
On the bench, I just sat there basking in the weightless beauty of our world, coming to some sort of compromise with myself.
This week’s podcast was an opportunity to sort through a few field recordings and tell some stories about my backpacking journeys in Europe and beyond a few years back.
The show starts with some info about my new website and some lessons learned in that regard. The gist of it for creators is to not make things complicated on yourself, especially if you are a one-person operation.
Blog post: When is the best time to do creative work?
One more fall photo for the road. A question I have for you to sit with is: Where are you going that you haven’t already arrived?
As always look to the bagel…
