The mind is a busy bee. When I take the time to watch it and study it, I can see why it’s difficult to do creative work. Because this type of work in particular requires a clean slate. The critic needs to be decommissioned in order for one to give themselves permission to do something new and original.
I talk about this during this week’s episode of Elliott’s Podcast, and I also demo my new fretless guitar.
You can also learn about the idea of the house that you build for your creative work. What types of thoughts and emotions are allowed to enter into this home? What will you leave on the front lawn?
The sunset in this video was captured on Thursday night. After a balmy day in Toronto there was a sky full of fire and it even featured a rainbow over the downtown.
A few ways to decommission the inner critic before doing creative work:
Meditation
Going for a walk in nature
Journaling with a cup of tea or coffee (watch my video about how to do that here)
Mantra and positive affirmation recitation which is part of Kenny Werner’s Effortless Mastery method
Reviewing your past achievements/body of work in the area that you are about to practice
Being willing to sit down to do awful work
Thank you to Missy for giving me the heads up about Toronto’s Bagel Pigeon.
In a video shared with blogTO, Instagram user Ashley Vols captured a pigeon just casually chilling at the southeast corner of Simcoe and Richmond at approximately 4:20 p.m. on Thursday. Okay, let me be more specific. It was a pigeon wearing a bagel.
Alright it’s time for me to eat a bagel now, hopefully one that was not previously worn by a pigeon. See you next week 😀
