When this newsletter is done, I invite you to exit the browser or email app you’re using to read this. Turn your wifi off if you’re on a laptop. Unplug the ethernet cable from the back. If on a phone, go into Airplane or Focus Mode.
Take the time to see what you can use your device for, which doesn’t involve reading information dripped into you. Maybe the device is not that useful in this mode? And that’s ok too. You can put it aside.
You might fidget and decide that a book is a good alternative in this scenario. Maybe you have a guitar nearby that you can strum for a bit? Yet both of these activities don’t really address the issue that we are constantly searching for some avenue out of the body.
And in this moment you will have to face the truth: Are you ok with this moment in front of you, or are you not ok with it?
Is something bothering you?
We Forget Sometimes
It’s ok to admit that you left some food out in a tupperware container last night but you woke up in the middle of the night and put it back in the fridge but you passed that two hour mark when all the websites warn you that food poisoning can be on the food now.
And that you are pissed off at yourself for wasting it out of negligent behaviour even though it happened out of a byproduct of being overloaded.
It’s ok to ponder how this or that person interacted at a family function this week. Even though none of these interactions really have anything to do with you.
We are mere witnesses to the circus unfolding around us. We did not create this circus, nor are we going to be the person who will shut it down.
So the question remains, when it’s time to close the browser, put the phone aside and sit still for a minute: Are you going to be ok with everything that comes up in your mind?
The mind is its own analytical engine. Constantly processing scenarios that have happened or are going to take place. The body on the other hand, has no capability of this sort. It has its functions to do, but it also gets disrupted by this lousy boss that the mind can become.
The Coffee Grinds Settle
Yesterday some coffee grinds got outside the filter and ended up in my coffee. I was preparing myself to drink the mini pebbles. Yet I forgot to finish my last few sips and I came back to the cup later on in the day.
Given some time, the grains settled to the bottom of the cup. I took my last sip and was undisturbed by them.
Every hot situation in your life improves itself when you give it time to simmer off. Always being connected makes for a situation where we need answers now, and we need to fix the problem now.
Yet looking outside the window, we see that the trees do just fine with minimal intervention. The human body manufactures a baby without the mother instructing where everything goes.
You Are Here
Sometimes we just need to accept where we are in the universe.
Located in a random point, both in relation to the other galaxies and the unfolding of events that have come before us (time and space).
The dinosaurs became extinct around 66 million years ago after living for 165 million years. Their fossils were first discovered by humans only in 1824.
Neanderthals became extinct around 40,000 years ago after existing for approximately 400,000 years. Their fossils were first discovered by humans in 1829.
The closest star to our solar system is Proxima Centauri, located about 4.3 light-years away. At the speed of today’s spaceships, it would take roughly 73,000 years to reach it.
And you thought this world was created around your needs and sensitive issues 😄
