Loosen the Grip of the Clocks
Return the stolen fridge magnet back to planet Kepler 187.
The village by the water cries for the shaved lion to return.
I drive a battery-powered kazoo made out of a banana peel into the sunset…
Lately I had been thinking about time. When I’m caked on the couch watching Superstore, time goes by fast. It’s kind of being wasted in a way.
Yet if I put on an exercise video, time slows dowwwwwn, especially after 10 minutes. Almost to the point of being bored. Yet the boredom is probably 100 times better for you.
If you sit on the sofa, and keep the TV off, then how long does it take for you to get bored? Again that boredom is great. You are giving yourself a rest and you’re not about to get sucked into the vortex of passive living.
I think TV is great - bad shows that give us a laugh, or wholesome documentaries. But I’m just amazed at how much more growth we can immerse ourselves in with just one hour of active work instead - exercise, making music or gardening.
Falling asleep on the couch in the evening doesn’t help provide the best type of rest, which is to simply get to bed early.
From The Attic
I had been working on a few pieces this weekend, but upon waking this Sunday I thought I could let myself off the hook since it’s daylight savings. Yes, these are the ridiculous excuses we can conjure up, and they are always an arm’s length away.
Yet something was speaking to me… it was a bunch of sounds on my harddrive that I had to sort through.
So there is a noodle on the guitar with other fragments from the portable recorder such as a symphony tuning up before a concert, or a typical bird chirp. To me, the piece is really about trawling through the attic of your notes - looking for all those tidbits of vegetables you have lying around your fridge and cooking up a simple meal with them.
It’s just a minute long to give a nod to all those sounds in the attic.
Four Track Snack Pack
I found a great guitar duo this week named Hermanos Gutierrez. They make music that pays homage to the sounds of Latin America in the 1950s. So that’s what starts this mish-mash of music off.
Esperanza - Hermanos Gutierrez
Cards - Live in Berlin - múm
Love Theme from Spartacus - Bill Evans
The Three Bells - The Browns
Or listen on YouTube.
Don’t change your clocks - lose your sense of time altogether.
Time to get some bagels…
