Tell Better Stories
This month, I was lucky enough to be taken to a Mumford and Sons concert. As someone who usually steers clear of bands that have broken into the mainstream, I never would have gone on my own.
And that is to say nothing of the gift from dear friend Ishi, buying those tickets when they first went on sale.
What I learned at that concert is: We need to tell better stories.
Not in the sense of lying to people and deception, but real stories of what we have gone through and what we know to be true.
I particularly liked how the videographers went with a black and white look for a good chunk of the show. They had some lovely steadicam footage that when combined together looked like a movie taking place right before your eyes.
So even though I don’t hear or understand most lyrics to songs in general, the end result was the same to me.
No matter what your affiliation to the music world is, when you see a crowd that is respectful of one another and can appreciate music that’s not “driven to 11”, you gotta give the whole operation props.
It’s easy to drive music and get people going, it’s harder to take a step back and be vulnerable as a songwriter and musician.
Elliott Continues to Wander
Summer is the best time for exploring and letting your ideas roam free. Go on mini adventures even if it seems unappealing to leave the comforts of the interior.
Your future self will thank you for taking it all in.
I went to Salsa on St. Clair in Toronto yesterday. I live right on this strip, but every year I housesit for my parents this exact week.
After my inspiring visit to Colombia this year, I was interested to check it out.
Find out how I did below:
Kitchen Pot Jam
I was looking at these steel sauce pots that I found in a cupboard for use in experimental coffee brewing but I found they were more useful to tap on.
