The Chip Shot
Lately I’m a big fan of the idea of “chip shots”. That’s the shot in golf where you’re close to the green and you give the ball a bit of a tap so you can scooch it on there before putting.
The chip shot to me is being able to play a bit of guitar when I only have 30 minutes, either early in the morning or at night before retirement.
Or this morning, when I had to do my podcast, the day of its release as opposed to my normal routine of doing it on Saturday. I chipped a recording out and it actually turned out pretty good.
The chip shot in golf is a difficult one to get right, and it’s a risky one, but when it works out you’re a happy camper.
And on the topic of the mindset of applying the chip shot to every day life: It can either feel deflating that I only have 30 minutes to play music on any given day. Or it can be liberating that you can take that short amount of time and put a vote in for the work you want to be doing the most.
How would you spend your chip shots? What would you try to make a bit of progress on when you do them?
This Week’s Podcast: Electric Piano and Pedal Steel Guitar on the Dock
There is no talking in this video but I was lucky to catch some waves on the dock at my friend's cottage this past weekend over on Lake Simcoe in Ontario. So the video clips made there way in here. Thanks for the afternoon up there AB!
Day to day we have things that disrupt and interrupt us but our ability to find some calm and a sense of presence will always renew itself like the waves of infinity.
Listen on other podcast players (no video though)
Missy sent me this great set of bagel memes to share with you this week;
