This week’s podcast is on the topic of the frequent “ejaculation of fear” that happens to us all the time, but beyond the catchy topic, it really is about taking the daily or hourly struggles that we go through, and sticking them in the furnace of your Most Creative Work.
These ideas speak to me about the possibility that everything is happening at just the perfect moment even though you can’t see it right now. The constant change in our days can be viewed as a feature rather than a bug.
But this all comes down to the choice we make to see it, in just the way that Viktor Frankl made the choice to search for small moments of joy while under the worst possible circumstances in the 1940s (as detailed in the book, A Man’s Search for Meaning).
The choices we make to live from a place of fullness rather than emptiness is shorthand for consciousness. The unconscious person walks around in a constant state of pain and worry. And no one is immune or shielded from this reality day after day.
You might not be able to move the dial on bigger issues in your life right now, but you can start with the small stuff. Practice on the spilt milk and the traffic jam.
This show concludes with a short blues song that I wrote on a walk 30 minutes before recording the episode called, “I Didn’t Know (That I Needed You)”, which ends up sounding like “I Didn’t Know that I Needed Jew” 😂
I asked my friends to help me name this funky flamenco tune. Check the comments to see what you came up with.
Someone told me this week that when you take self-defence classes you can turn your body into a weapon. In response, I wrote in my journal, “if the body can become a weapon, how do we turn the mind into an atom bomb (for good)?”
I'm legitimately about to eat my sunday bagel and scrambled eggs now. Have a great rest of your weekend and week ahead!
