Good morning friends, here are three ideas that I am working through this Sunday.
1. This week I am reviewing the idea that there is a perfect way to things. The order of events that are happening around us. The structure of our day. The job or career we’ve found ourselves enjoying or struggling with. Everything is happening right on schedule as painful as it is to accept this fact. We needed to go through this or that difficulty in order to get to this point. When you get caught in the storm that life stirs up, the best thing you can do is to just let it go and accept it as being perfect.
2. There is a habit around music that can be hard to get in place. It’s a tough debate because music should be fun, but without discipline, you can’t perform or go on to compose music that will likely entertain other people. It starts with posture and showing up to honour your repertoire. Even if you work on experimental music, there is still a similar set of habits that need to be adopted in order to finish music and ship it to audiences. The discipline just kicks in at a later stage of the process.
3. Every day is a new opportunity to work on your mindset. When you wake up you get a new shot at it. Yesterday you might’ve been a jackass to yourself or to others, but today you get a new chance. And every part of the day unlocks this opportunity as well. You might’ve had a bad morning, but you can make something of your afternoon or evening.
Music Recommendation: Golden Brown (ambient/guitar)
I recently discovered Golden Brown’s music and I enjoy this mix of fingerstyle guitar and strange effect loops. It definitely sits in this zone that I have been exploring lately in my work.
His newest album is called Weird Choices, but I recommend going through some of the previous ones as well. I have selected the final piece Olas/Ondas which highlights his sound well.
This week’s bagel is made out of wool! Thanks Missy for sending this one along by crochet artist Maria Skog.
And a Happy Birthday to Remi Noodle!
Take care and have a great week,
Elliott
p.s. Don’t forget I have a new newsletter just for artists and entrepeneurs navigating the journey of sharing their most creative work.
Sometimes I wonder if you can read my mind, Elliot. Well, read my mind and then articulate what I’m thinking much more eloquently and beautifully. Another excellent piece. Thanks.
This is so true, we keep trying to be perfect when something as simple as being there is almost always more than enough and eventually perfect as it is. :) Thanks so much for sharing your thoughts!
And thanks for sharing Golden Brown, I was sure that it will be best to have it as a background while reading here :) It felt almost like I was in your head while you were writing the post.
I'm getting closer and closer to a year late, but as mentioned it is perfect as it is :)
