This weekend I sold one of my guitars on Kijiji. I had posted it over a month ago at my ideal price, but had trouble selling it.
Last week a guy messaged me with a lower offer, but he told me that he had been watching my listing for the past few weeks and he was selling some of his guitars to make room for mine. He really wanted this one.
I looked at his profile and saw that he indeed had two other guitars listed. When I met him in person he seemed like a genuine person and I doubt he made all this up to get a better deal.
It made me realize that we’re willing to help people when we see they’re committed to something. I was willing to lower my price when I factored in the story that this person really wanted what I was selling, so much to the point that he would get rid of other guitars to make room for it. I felt better about dropping the price for him, as opposed to someone who is just looking for a bargain off of me.
I know the business and marketing world often talk about ‘stories’, sometimes even relating it to the power of the bible as the ultimate story, and I tune a lot of that stuff out, but I thought that this was a practical application of a time when a story about how someone is determined helps make a case for a sale.
On a larger scale removed from this Kijiji story, I think it’s hard for us to help people who aren’t willing to help themselves. When we see people are disciplined to put in the work, we respond to it, and we’re inspired to be a part of that thing.
Something a bit more upbeat this week on Elliott’s Podcast. Heady jams head your way when you hit play on this.
Listen on Spotify which also shows the video, and other networks as well.
And I’m happy to announce that on Saturday, April 30th I will be doing a live episode to celebrate one year of Elliott’s Podcast!

Your Bagels
Nadya B. sends in a gluten free bagel this week from Little Northern Bakehouse, a company that makes GF breads and bagels based on British Columbia. Featured on this bagel is Earth Balance as a substitute for butter, and some homegrown microgreens with a helping of smoked salmon.
It totally looks like it would past the Sunday Bagel test, although I’m sure it chews a little weird like everything else that’s missing gluten.
Meanwhile over in the U.K., Hans tried the Bagel Bakery Bar in Soho which he rates a hearty 7.7/10.
The seating the sun the bagel and healthy amount of smoked salmon
And the Irish couple fighting.
They were fighting about looking after their dog apparently 😏
See you next week Bagelers!
