When I work with AI coding, I get access to a file called AGENTS.md.
Whatever I put in the file sets the tone for how the agent will work with me.

Recently, I set it my AGENTS.md to talk like a valley girl using short sentences with a lot of !!
It has to explain all technical ideas as if I have the brain of a grade 7 student.
And it’s set to quietly act like a high-powered executive assistant who always proposes the most useful next steps to get my project launched.
So I have a bubbly assistant who is always keeping the ball moving - in theory, of course.
Then it occurred to me that we have an AGENTS.md file as well. It’s called our subconscious.
Whatever is in our SUBCONSCIOUS.md file is how you are going to operate throughout the day.
How you operate throughout the day is basically how you live your life, because the Power of Now states that the past doesn’t exist (it’s gone), and the future is just a figment of the imagination.
SUBCONSCIOUS.md is basically what every New Thought writer was talking about for over 100 years.
The idea that you can impregnate the mind to do what you want it to do.
Every successful religion has made use of this science by asking its followers to repeat prayers and stories throughout the year, at assigned time intervals. This “kit” of values can be reinforced with other juicy rituals such as food, song and dance.
Learning music and new languages taps into these routes of the brain as well. How else can you go from not knowing one word of Spanish, to being able to carry a conversation with a stranger in Buenos Aires?
I believe that how we operate in x, y z areas of life are skills that can be acquired in a similar fashion.
You might want to be a more effective employee or a more compassionate mother and cut down on the tendency to fallback to baby shaking when you get stressed, for example.
To make use of SUBCONSCIOUS.md, consider writing down the world that you are trying to bring into reality. Write it down with a pen and onto a piece of paper.
Some people call the components of this list goals, but you can also think of them as mere directions to head towards.
Spend a short time in quiet at night before bed, which is where the impregnation of this file will take place.
Review the file and use the power of visualization to help add a bit of colour to the goals or direction you wish to sail towards.
Upon waking, review the file again.
During the day, when you regress, read the file again.
Regress is the keyword here. In my AGENTS.md, it doesn’t always boot up into Valley Girl mode.
I have to gently nudge it with the key word and then it says “oh yeah!!”.
It can also pop out mid-chat, and start talking in highly technical terms and expect me to understand everything.

When we regress as humans, we usually fall back to the default mode of being fearful of every next psychological corner we will turn.
Scarcity over money and relationships is a fairly common place to regress to. In English, that translates to the fear of dying alone and penniless.
It’s a lot of work inheriting a prehistoric brain.
Sometimes we need new tools to reshape the brain to better match the world in which it inhabits.
And in this case, I am suggesting you use the technology of pen and paper mixed with the ancient art of quieting the mind through stillness and meditation.
