This weekend I thought about how funny it would be if humans were able to invent computers and AI technology, but were collectively blocked on the invention of the toilet. In this world, people would fill buckets up in their homes and dump them off the balconies like in old European cities.
But that had me thinking about how amazing the world of technology and invention is, that all the work done on running water and agriculture had set the stage for people to eventually sit down and make electronics.
Sometimes when I am hesitant to work, I tell myself that I can just “Edison It”, referring to the number of failures Thomas Edison went through to invent the lightbulb. This newsletter is part of that process too. Every time I sit down to write I don’t know what will happen but I will do it anyways.
Three Ideas from My Notebooks
Facing rejections or setbacks in life either business or relationships is not personal. People are moving in hundreds of directions like traffic, don’t bother trying to figure them out. Figure yourself out instead by returning to your centre.
Tomorrow begins today. By the late afternoon my body is shutting down, so in the evening it’s better to start thinking about what you want to get done tomorrow. Last night I squeezed a short guitar practice in at 9pm by using Focusmate, but that’s rare for me.
If you are thinking about starting a business or side-hustle, consider what you’re interested in, mixed with a bit of what others are interested in, packaged in a way that’s convenient for other people to take advantage of it. Convenience doesn’t have to be an app, it can be an experience in real life but it just has to be simple to sign up to attend.
Music Recommendation: Charley Patton
I love going through old blues and gospel when I can tolerate the scratchy sound. Charley Patton is new to me, even though he is possibly the “Father of the Delta Blues”. I listen for the groove though, and it’s here in songs like this one below. Read his Wikipedia entry here for some interesting points about his life.
Listen on YouTube.
If you love this newsletter consider supporting it. Thank you to Adam and Theresa who are the first two people, I’m hoping to get a third soon.
Enjoy the rest of your weekend and wishing you a great week ahead full of bagels.
