One night this week I took Teddy for a walk around the block. My mind was busy for the first half, but then something clicked for the final stretch. I stepped into what I now call Channel Two.
If Channel One is our default mode, our day-to-day worrying, then what do you think is on Channel Two?
Find out on this week’s show where I review the basis for this idea of the different channels of consciousness which operate like a TV or a radio. I also play a nice little piece on the keyboard for you.
Also listen on Spotify and Apple Podcasts.
The Holidays
The next two weeks of the Sunday Bagel fall on Christmas Day and New Years Day. I enjoy working on everything that goes into these shows so I will most likely not be taking a break for the holidays.
I do think it’s important to reflect on things at this time of year though. One tool that came across my desk is the Year Compass. Theresa shared with me the 8760 Hours workbook as well.
Not to overwhelm you with one more option but there is the 12 Week Year which is a book about breaking down yearly goals into 3-month increments because one year is too long and you can lose sight of things quickly.
Whatever you choose to do, something that I think carries people through this season is a healthy dose of self-compassion. Your stress might be from the holidays and family, or it might come from having extra time off and the opportunity to take a closer look into the things that you might’ve been shovelling under the rug for a while.
In either situation, you have to give yourself some space from your inner critic. Hopefully you don’t have much stress at all this time of year!
Music Recommendation
Adam sent me this one by John Dwyer who I had never heard of before. A bit of noisy jazz, very much reminding me of some MMW.
One tip before I go. If you want to have fresh bagels every day of the year, go buy some bagels right when they come out of the oven in the morning. After they cool off, put them in the freezer in their own ziplock bags. When you take the bagel out and bring it back to life, it will be nice and fluffy like the day you picked it up.
Happy Chanukah!
