This week’s podcast is exactly what it should be after almost 30 episodes: I’m sitting in my sweatpants showing leftover chicken pasta that I made to the camera.
This isn’t intended to be a form of bragging but a moment of quiet pride in how far I’ve come. Because I was experimenting with podcasting over a decade ago, and after throwing in the towel I spent many years quietly sneering at the idea of having my own podcast again.
When you think you’ve lost all hope in your creative pursuits, just call this image of me holding up the leftovers in your mind and know that rebirth can be experienced at any time in this life.
Lap steel show and tell!
This is a fun little look at my lap steel guitar. For a bit closer look at the history of the instrument I do go over it in better detail on my Let’s Go to Hawaii podcast episode. In future I’m going to address the slide from the perspective of the blues musicians and its connection to Africa.
Just a heads up, I am starting a beta test of my Patreon this season. The first tier is $3 a month. You might immediately ask what that gets you. I will say nothing*. But what does it get me? It gives me everything.
I will leave it there on the counter for a bit and then I’ll come back and explain it in much greater detail and clarity around what I’m doing and why I would have the chutzpah to ask people for money for it (“The nerve, Jerry!”).
* That $3/month tier will give people a monthly report of everything I did that month and what I’m working on so it’s not technically “nothing” but I don’t want to get into the business of burning myself out with making content behind paywalls because I’m one person and not the New York Times editorial team.
Behold the power of the universe captured on my humble point and click! Oh how I stalk the sunrise some mornings.
Alright take care and stay cozy.
Happy Chanukah to anyone who lights it up this time of year!
