Last week’s poll was about what car you would feel comfortable crossing the street in front of. I asked this question because there was a time when Volvo was the symbol of safety.
With those cars shaped like a cardboard box back in the day, I never felt any anxiety crossing the road in front of a Volvo. The stalwart of my friends back in high school, SPG, used to drive everyone around in a Volvo like this.
As the brand has gone super lux, nowadays I don’t feel the same way. I’ve seen some Volvo drivers ready to plow me down like a Canadian snow bank in February.
For me, Subaru is the brand that I would feel most comfortable crossing the road in front of. When I see people get in or out of a Subaru, I know there is a big heart inside that person.
This week’s podcast goes back to the format of some of my earlier episodes, offering a short dose of music and inspiration. It features a stunning sunset that I captured the other night on the rooftop. I think you will enjoy it.
You may also listen on Spotify or Apple Podcasts (audio only). And anywhere else you prefer to listen to podcasts.
Album Roulette
This week I pulled out this album by Carlos Niño and Friends. I don’t know much about his music but I’m always amazed when I hear it. I would describe it as “new” new age music.
Carlos Gabriel Niño (born February 16, 1977) is a Californian music producer, percussionist, performer, arranger, composer, musician, programmer, radio host, DJ, music consultant, poet, and event organizer, based in his hometown of Woodland Hills, California. Niño has been involved in the production of more than 150 records and has toured with various bands and as a DJ throughout Europe, Japan and the United States.
Carlos Niño & Friends
This is the highly collaborative, on-going project that Niño has been most focused on as a recording artist and producer since he started it in 2008. In the 2017 Bandcamp Article by Will Schube, Niño says:"the '& Friends' concept is really about me doing whatever I want creatively, with whoever I want. Just really freeing it up. These are the people I'm closest with personally. They're literally my closest friends. They're on the record because of that, and because they're among my favorite musicians and people to collaborate with."
Thanks for reading, see you next week!
Probably a big difference with where I live, because the people inside a Subaru are very similar to people inside expensive Audi's and BMW's. Just for some clarity for the usual experience you'd have if you overtake one - he just immediately shows off by overtaking you with muscle motor roar in return :)
In terms of what car I'd be comfortable crossing the street in front of - I'd usually be much less anxious in front of an electric car. The reason - it is a lot safer due to the orders of magnitude lower motor latency leading to better control overall, despite the usual weight difference.
If Subaru owners in Canada are hearty people, I'll know what to do for my next visit, thanks! :)
