Growing up, my family used to be firmly on the side of picking up our food, rather than have a delivery person come to the door.
Back then delivery was more patchy compared to today. A pizza could show up stone cold, and on top of the extra wait, you had to give a cash tip of about $5, which is closer to $10 adjusted for inflation (I might be making this up but I am old now).
As such I grew accustomed to the process of calling in your order, and leaving about 10 minutes later to get there for 20 minutes.
Back in my day it was agreed upon that if you picked up your order, no tip was necessary. It was an agreement that couldn’t survive the test of time, and I understand why restaurants started moving in that direction in the past few years.
Now, Uber Eats riders on e-bikes are fascinating to me. Here are some things I’ve noticed about them:
It seems standard that there is no light on the bike
To complement the above, they always wear the darkest clothes
Any part of the road, sidewalk, or curb is fair game
Any direction that the flow of traffic goes in is up for modification
At early dinner time you can see which restaurants are popular not by the amount of people in them, but by the line-up of drivers outside ready to storm the bastille of sushi and unleash the fury on the roads
So what will it be, delivery or takeout?
Three Ideas from My Notebooks
Try setting little goals throughout the day. Goals don’t have to be large, overarching things, but simply an aspiration to get this or that thing done.
Create an environment of focus and doing your Most Creative Work. Think about the mindset and the physical space that you work in (set and setting).
Send yourself an email outlining everything you’re working on and what you’d like to get done this week. This is the simplest way to get re-situated after a weekend of rest and watching Dune movies.
All of the ideas going back to May 2023 are now located in The Ideas Index:
Listen to Crater of the Moon
The working title for this song was called Peace and Serenity. It features a delicious piano mixed with the tropical vibe of my lap steel guitar.
