This season I am in a tinkering mode with music. I am trying to find the right acoustic guitar, and I’m fiddling with learning how to operate a multi-effects pedal that I’ve had for two years but could never master.
It’s tempting to ask yourself if this is the Resistance at work, the dark force that’s just distracting me from finishing music. It calls me to websites to research inventory before bed and will have me driving to the different corners of the city to inspect merchandise.
And then you remember that everything in life goes through phases and cycles. Yes, retail therapy is a thing, but sometimes we need this time to get inspired. Research and learning are part of the creative process. Notice when you try to shame yourself for doing this or that thing.
Living life without burdens and wearing a jacket on a hot day means that you do what you have to do to let off some steam, and then you get back on track finding your way to centre.
Three ideas that I’m chewing on right now
1. Everything is happening right on schedule
2. When the student is ready, the teacher will appear1
3. 10-20 minutes of simple exercise every day is a realistic goal. Walking, yoga and/or bodyweight exercises in your living room are all very doable. Walking seems to need about an hour to get the full benefit.
Music Recommendation
I enjoy finding ambient music that breathes. What that means is the artist is consciously playing with the textures and bringing in and out different elements. Check out this track, Långt under noll by “Snufmumriko”
Thanks for reading and I’m off to get some bagels shortly. Have a great week ahead!
Cheers,
Elliott
Btw I have announced my new workshop, Confident (Enough) on Camera which reviews lessons I’ve learned from doing projects like Elliott’s Podcast and putting my mug on the screen. It’s happening in July and will have a video replay after it’s done.
I got this one from a book summary discussing Be Here Now by Ram Das in relation to his wandering around India before finding his guru, but the quote seems to originate from the Tao

Confirming that most of calisthenics (as an addendum to yoga) is a very time efficient way to build some healthy muscle and lose some excess fat, as well as easy to do at home, especially if one gets very excited and orders a pull-up bar :D
Btw, a really nice source for ideas on the subject is Kyle Bogeman's YouTube channel (kbogea), not only for calisthenics, but in general for exercise advice.
And thanks again for the really nice ambient track, I've lost myself in the woods again :)
